Usui Reiki Virtual Retreat Begins Today
Please join me for the Usui Reiki Virtual Retreat, which is hosted annually by Mari Hall (www.wisechoices.com). I have been participating in this retreat for many years now, and I am happy to share it with you: You are invited to join with other Reiki practitioners every August 15th to celebrate Usui's birthday in the Usui 21-Day Retreat that starts at that time. This Retreat is not limited to one location, but takes place wherever you may be. It lasts for 21 days during which time we (mutually) intend that the highest good of all concerned will be served, and that our community experience will generate a deep, very nurturing ocean of shared Reiki. Please join the Retreat by following an example set by Dr. Mikao Usui, it is our plan to set aside time to reflect, open our minds and hearts to fresh outlooks on life, and look deeply within to discover balance and wellness. The Usui 21day Virtual retreat August 15, 2010 We tend to project our attention towards the psychological and out towards others, towards the future and the past. This projection will take us further and further away from the real treasure. The Right Direction Your second being is your essential being that is beyond the confinement of the mind. This essential being is something that has been with you since the beginning of time. It has never changed and never will, because it is purity itself, the deep blue sky that gives space to all the clouds of the mind. For this week please focus on the essential. Whenever the clouds of the mind (emotions and thought) obscure the blue sky of your essence, step back, and remember what is beyond all the troubles of your daily life. To succeed in this stepping back from the world of the mind I suggest a simple technique to be used for the next seven days, whenever you remember it. To make it easier please set aside 30 minutes or more per day in which you devote yourself totally to this practice. A beautiful Indian Master of Meditation and Self- Realization called Ramana Maharshi devised it. The Meditation Sit in a quiet place and make sure the telephone is turned off and you are not disturbed for 30 minutes or more. It is helpful to sit with your back erect in a 90-degree angle and to breathe as deeply as you can in your lower abdomen. Breathe in and out through your nose, letting the breath touch your Tanden (two or three fingers width below your navel). Forget everything else and know that there is nothing to be done, nothing to be changed and nothing to be achieved. Allow everything to be as it is; let the neighbor’s dog bark and the wind pass through the trees. Allow the trucks drive past your house without judgment. There is no need to say yes to this and no to that. Everything is as it is. It may be helpful to close your eyes lightly and focus your attention on the point between your eyes, the third eye. This will help you to focus your attention. Whenever a thought arises, please ask yourself " Who is having this thought", and then answer this question by saying to yourself " I am". Then you inquire, " Who am I" and resist the temptation to answer this enigmatic question, because all you can answer is geared towards the psychological self. After having done this a few times, you might get in touch with a vast silent space inside you, the size of the Universe. Stay with this spaciousness until the next thought arises and then continue as described above. Mind activity requires your participation. The thoughts arise by themselves due to sensory perception, but when they have come up from the depth of the unconscious there is a moment of choice whether to continue the train of thought or not. For this week just say no, and in this way take the energy away from thought by using this method of self- enquiry. This process is tiresome in the beginning, like going on a fast. You deny the mind its breakfast, lunch and dinner and without food it comes to a standstill. In this moment of silence, you may get a glimpse of your essence. Remain with this essence as long as it shows itself to you. Think of it as a rare bird or a rainbow that comes to you unexpected and leaves again in its own time. Don’t try to hold on to it, because if you do it will surely leave… If you have any questions about the process please feel free to email me at Arjava@ReikiDharma.com. I will be at home in Greece until the end of the retreat… Arjava (Frank Arjava Petter). I will post the meditations for the next two weeks as well so that we can follow along together. I hope you enjoy this!
Usui Reiki Virtual Retreat Invitation from Mari Hall:
Greetings Reiki Friends,
Here is the focus and meditation for Week 1:
The First Week
In the first week of this year’s retreat I invite you to shift your focus from the psychological to the essential. Imagine that you are two beings: first, the psychological self, your conditioning, your mind and emotions. As we all know this psychological being is a constant flux, a permanent up and down of thoughts and emotions. One moment you are happy and filled with clarity and another moment finds you in sadness and confusion.
The psychological self can be compared to a muddy pond. You find clear water on the top, but the moment an external occurrence stirs up the waters, the mud in the bottom is roughed up. Before you know it all the waters have become mucky and you lose track of yourself. Of course it is a lovely habit to polish the surface of your mind like a jeweler polishing a gem to bring out its luster, and as is obvious there is always more work to be done: it is endless. But after a while all this polishing becomes tiresome and a moment comes when you realize that nothing ever changes as long as you look into the wrong direction.
Blessings,
Mary
