Dr. Oz features Reiki as a complementary therapy on his 1/6/09 show

Dr. Oz will be featuring Reiki in the alternative medicine segment on this Wednesday's Dr. Oz Show (on Fox, January 6)!

After demonstrating therapies such as alternate nostril breathing and cupping, Dr. Oz then focuses on Reiki. He says, "The next [alternative remedy] I'm going to talk about is one of my favorites. We've been using it in the Oz family for years..."

This is an event of huge proportions; having Reiki make even a brief appearance on a mainstream health show! Dr. Oz is a renowned cardiac surgeon at one of the top teaching hospitals in the world, and he would not give his attention to anything risky or without merit. In fact, he was the first to let Julie Motz, a Reiki Practitioner, in the OR with him to administer Reiki treatments during cardiac surgery back in the 1980's. Julie wrote a book about her experiences in the OR with Dr. Oz entitled, "Hands of Life".

We in the Reiki community are very fortunate to have such a credible, sensible, well informed, and popular advocate. If you want to do something to help support this forward movement, then make sure to watch the show, and invite others to watch it. Email your Reiki circle, your clients, your students. Email your family. Post it on Facebook, on your page and share with any relevant groups you belong to.

The producers track the viewership for each program, and content that draws viewers is more likely to get featured again. If no one watches, they assume the public isn't interested. Please pass this information on to anyone else you think may be interested.

I'm not sure if this has occurred in all areas, but my TV listings show the Reiki episode will air tomorrow (1/7/10). So make sure your listings are correct and try tomorrow if the Reiki episode didn't air in your location today! Don't miss it!

how wonderful! i just watched him tonight on the Joy Behar Show, and had to
smile when she actually said to him she had heard he did NOT immunize his
children for the H1N1 flu. of course, he said it was because his wife made
"that decision", but also went on to say that he had his children's
vaccinations spread out over time, in context to Joy Behar's question about
vaccines and autism. he also mentioned his belief regarding the autism
with "contributors' such as toxic chemicals and our not-so-healthy
environment in our world today, but also the enormous increase in what we
inject our kids with...his kids vaccines (and my own boys) 10, as opposed to
todays vaccines at an unbelieveable total of 30+!! I think people really
listen to him, so yes, it's great that he is willing to speak out for what
so many of us are seeking with alternative health supports. Thanks for
keeping this information coming here in CNY, Mary!
    Best,
    Sheree

Here are some of the comments I have received about the show:

    Hi Mary!
that's odd.....we can't live too far away....i'm over here in westvale, by
st. camillus/bishop ludden, and we saw it today! it was rather brief, as he
addressed aromatherapy, mineral/mud soaks for arthritis, and then the Reiki, and also the accupressure/ cupping technique. I thought it was teriffic as he really talked about energy medicine, and how it is being more and more incorporated with traditional western health care. they seemed to use the term, "integretive medicine" alot. It was on the first half-hour segment, ending with some of the audience recommending their home remedies. a welcome change and wonderful to see this presented from a doctor who people would listen to and hopefully try! so i thank you for letting me know about this, and i in turn, also told people!
    all the best,
    Sheree

I'm from Mexia TX (near Waco). It was on today down here but, only briefly mentioned Reiki...actually I only saw the first half of the show so, he might have gone back to it later. I'll watch the rest of the show later (I recorded it).

Thanks for the heads-up on his show, I didn't know about him but will now watch him regularly!!!

I caught the episode earlier today by accident. The portion on Reiki
was very brief. The Reiki Master shown did not discuss energy but said
that Reiki was about "balancing." I felt this was an inadequate
explanation, but at least the person being healed did say her headache
was getting better. They also mentioned the hot hands.

    Namaste,

    Hi Mary!
The Oz episode yesterday at 11A did have the alternative medicines on it - including Reiki. Apparently Dr. Oz's wife is a Reiki Master. They didn't have much information on it - only about 5 minutes, but he did explain why he thinks energy work really works. He explained from a cellular level, all cells have energy and organs are made of cells, so organs have energy and so on... It wasn't as extensive as I had hoped, but it was a respected Dr. saying this works and is one of his favorite forms of alternative healing, so it was good!

    Namaste!

This is great news for reiki practitioner amd supporters. More people are becoming aware of the gentle balancing energy. Reiki is like massage therapy. It took a while for it to be known as a healing practice and covered by most insurance. I beleive reiki will have its day. Hopefully sooner then latter.

Great blog! I truly believe in alternative healing and prevention. After two surgeries on my Rotator Cuff, I was still in excruciating pain. My sister in-law referred me to http://www.quantumtouch.com for http://www.quantumtouch.com “>acupuncture . They put me in touch with an excellent Practitioner and after acupuncture treatments - I am pain free without pharmaceuticals!
