If you're not familiar with his work, here's a synopsis of "The Shack", which happens to be one of my favorite reads, by William P. Young

Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's life forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant The Shack wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

What readers are saying:

"This book reads like a prayer- like the best kind of prayer, filled with sweat and wonder and transparency and surprise. If you read one work of fiction this year, let this be it!

Mike Morrell, Zoecarnate.com

"An exceptional piece of writing that ushers you directly into the heart and nature of God in the midst of agonizing human suffering."

David Gregory, author of Dinner with a Perfect Stranger

Several of you have asked if a recording of William Paul Young's lecture is available. I inquired about this and I received this message from Joan Phillips of Asbury First:

Recordings are available for $7.00.  Call Asbury First United Methodist Church at 585-271-1050, Extension 103 (Melody Guadagnino, Office Mgr.) to order a copy.

His talk was outstanding.  Our sanctuary was filled to about 900 capacity and our Fellowship Hall to 275 capacity to watch on simulcast.  He held the audience spellbound for 2 hrs. 15 minutes as he stood on a platform in the altar area in his blue jeans....a very special soul...so humble in authorizing the church to make his talk available with no strings attached...and no request for any financial benefit from the taping.

Barnes & Noble asked our pastor, Susan Shafer, in the days ahead, if we knew what we were taking on by inviting him....and we were all so humbled by the incredible response.  Known as Paul, Paul Young stayed on afterwards for hours and signed every copy of his book with a personal note to each recipient.

Any funds we gain from this event will be used for the beginning of our new  CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL LIFE AT ASBURY which is to benefit our entire community and not only our church members. If you care to be on the mailing list for THE CENTER please ask Melody to do so.

Blessings and thank you for your interest.
Joan Phillips
