The Sounds of Peace

Rarely have I come across such a beautiful product at a reasonable price that supports a meaningful cause. But that's exactly what I found when I discovered these Cambodian Jingle Bells. These fair-trade jingle bells are made from spent artillery shell casings from landmines in Cambodia. In 1975, the Khmer Rouge seized power in Cambodia, beginning a four-year reign of terror that killed a million Cambodians. The nation's infrastructure, agricultural base, and spirit were shattered. While tremendous progress has been made in Cambodia since then, the country still carries the scars from decades of conflict, including the plague of millions of landmines. These landmines, planted over many years of war, remain throughout the countryside in fields where families tend their crops and animals. As people go about their daily activities in the fields, many gather the shells, which are then recast into bells, which are used to adorn the harnesses of cows, oxen, and water buffalo.

The sales of these bells are made possible through the "Shells into Bells" program sponsored by Church World Service. These bells are beautiful and have a unique handcrafted appearance. With the purchase of each bell, you will receive a card explaining the story of the bell's creation. Attach these darling little bells to doorknobs, gift packages, pet collars, holiday wreaths, backpacks, yoga mat bags, etc. And don't forget to give them as gifts to those you care about. Your purchase will help to turn weapons of destruction into sounds of peace. These bells are available directly by clicking on the following link:
