As Valentine's Day approaches, our thoughts turn to Love. There are many expressions of Love, but they all come from one Source. In fact, Divine Love is the creative force of the universe. At the center of the desire to create is Love. Source, called God to some, created us in order to fully express this Divine Love. We, in turn, are called to express this energy in order to heal ourselves and others. When we live our lives from this place of pure Love, we act in loving, caring, and nurturing ways, both toward others and toward ourselves. We find a way to balance our giving and receiving of love.

If our focus is more on giving love, as opposed to receiving it, we will be out of alignment with this Universal Energy Stream. We will put the needs of others before our own and will run the risk of wearing ourselves down, eventually becoming resentful or ill. The opposite is also true. When our focus is more on receiving love, we put our own needs ahead of others and make sure our needs are met, no matter what. In doing so, we may become insensitive to, or even alienate others, in the process. Either way, this behavior is out of balance and doesn't serve us.  For most of us in the helping professions, we put others' needs before our own, and risk burnout. What is your relationship with Divine Love?

For the next week, try paying attention to your relationship with Divine Love. And if you are out of alignment with this Universal Energy Stream, try taking some kind of simple action to bring yourself back into alignment, such as scheduling an energy work session or taking a bath with essential oils. When you take good care of yourself, you don't feel as desperate or needy of the love of others, and you also realize that you are not responsible for filling others' needs. Let your intuition guide you to the best action to take and you'll feel the energy shift in a positive direction.
