Using Reiki with Children
Childhood should be a happy and carefree time of life. But more and more children are experiencing difficulties these days, and many are even being diagnosed with serious conditions, such as Autism, ADD, and Cancer. When a child is diagnosed with a serious disorder, it is a sign that they are out of balance. You can tell when your child's energy is balanced. They are content, happy, and curious about their environment. However, when your child's energy is out of balance, they respond with fussiness, tantrums, or illness. Disruptions to the body's energy field are the cause of all illness and imbalance we experience.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key), a Japanese holistic healing technique, works by restoring the free flow of energy to the body. Reiki is a powerful, yet gentle and nurturing technique that is especially well-suited for use with children, including children with special needs. Reiki can help with common childhood problems such as temper tantrums, fears, sleep problems, learning difficulties, illnesses and injuries, etc., as well as the more difficult problems that children with special needs face.
Reiki involes placing the practitioner's hands on or near the person's body for the purpose of healing. Reiki works to balance the energy field, and feels like warm rays of sunshine that surround and heal you. Reiki sessions for children are typically shorter in duration and tend to be impromptu, as compared to adult Reiki sessions. Although Reiki sessions for children can be done in a typical office setting, children respond beter to sesisons done in their own environment, and as such, are best performed by the parents themselves.
Parents who are interested in Reiki for their child should look for a Reiki practitioner who is experienced in working with children. Parents can also become trained in basic Reiki techniques themselves so that they can practice it at home with their child. If possible, you should look for a Reiki class that is geared toward teaching you how to use Reiki with children. Reiki can be learned by anyone, can be done anywhere, and requires no special equipment. Children who receive Reiki on a regular basis tend to be happier, more resilient, and more balanced overall, despite their life's circumstances. Reiki can ultimately help children to reach their highest potential.
