Reiki Hour Summer Solstice Event!
Many of you have chosen to participate in Reiki Hour on an ongoing basis. Now I invite you to take your practice a step further and celebrate the Summer Solstice with a Reiki twist! Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the Summer Solstice occurs on Sunday, June 21. As we have already been participating in Reiki Hour on Sunday nights at 8:30 pm, I am inviting you to heighten your experience of Reiki by participating on the Sunday of the Summer Solstice, when we will combine Reiki Hour with a celebration of the Summer Solstice! I guarantee you that you will feel a dramatic shift in energy if you participate in this event. We have a large group and the Solstice Energy combined with the group Reiki will be phenomenal!
If you have not been participating with us, please begin now. Here's how it goes; people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour, joining together in sending a message of hope about the future of our precious planet. I am inviting all Reiki practitioners to join in on Reiki Hour on the night of the Summer Solstice and send Reiki to the Earth at the same time.
So on 6/21/09 at 8:30 pm your time, please turn off all non-essential lights, and become the light. First, telepathically connect with one another using the distant Reiki symbol, thus becoming one united light. Don't worry if you are a Level I practitioner and have not yet been taught the symbols. Just connect with Reiki as you were taught and you will be connected with the group. Then send Reiki with the pure intention "Peace, Love, Health, Prosperity and Well-being for all beings," visualizing a world at peace and the Earth returning to a healthy state of balance; see the air, streams, rivers and seas being cleansed.

About the speaker:

Catholic Bishops Denounce Reiki
When I heard about this pronouncement made by the Catholic Church, I was initially saddened. It was clear to me that the people who wrote it were coming from a place of fear and misunderstanding. Reiki is not a religion and is not in opposition to the Catholic Church. The energy that we channel as Reiki practitioners is pure God consciousness and is available to everyone. As I sat in ghasso position with this information in my consciousness, I realized that Reiki healing is being called for in this situation. Since that time, I have been ending Reiki to the situation, and to the Catholic Church for their highest healing. My goal is that we will all be able to transcend our differences and realize that we are all One, which is the basis of all religious thought. What do you think? Product Review: Surviving Surgery: Techniques That Could Save Your Life ebook by Cathy Schaffer, PA-C
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Cathy Schaffer, a Physician Assistant who works at Upstate Medical Center here in Syracuse in the Department of Neurosurgery. Cathy is also a fellow Reiki practitioner and is a firm believer in alternative healthcare techniques.
Cathy has written an e-book that I highly recommend. The book is called "Surviving Surgery: Techniques That Could Save Your Life." The book supports the use of integrative medicine techniques in order to help patients respond to the stress response that occurs before, during, and after surgery. It covers four domains of self care; Biofield Therapies, Biologically Based Therapies, Manipulative and Body Based Practices, and Mind-Body Medicine.
The book is writtten in such a way that it will appeal to both patients and medical practitioners alike. Cathy explains the subject in a clear way, which will no doubt be helpful for those facing surgery in the short term. Practitioners will find it to be concise and informative, and they will surely consult the information contained in this book to help them make recommendations on a subject matter in which they may not be well versed.

Pets & Spirituality
Have you noticed that pets demonstrate spiritual qualities, such as joy, unconditional love, and gratitude, in abundance? Connecting with our pets can offer us a path to spirituality that is unparalleled by any other. I recently read an an article entitled "10 Spiritual Ways to Connect with Your Pet" by Allen & Linda Anderson published on the Beliefnet website: http://www.beliefnet.com/Love-Family/Pets/2008/11/10-Spiritual-Ways-to-Connect-with-Your-Pet.aspx, the authors suggest a variety of ways to walk the spiritual path with your animal companion. Here are their suggestions:
Keep a pet gratitude journal-
Before you go to sleep at night, list three things you appreciate about your pet. Look at your pet and read these three things to him or her. Go to sleep with your pet on the bed, if that works for you, and fill your heart with gratitude for having such a loving presence in your life.
Imagine & dream together-
Spend silent time with your pet before going to sleep. With a gentle touch, stroke the animal. Imagine your pet as a Soul inhabiting an animal body. Ask this Soul to visit your dreams and communicate with you. Place a notebook and pen or tape recorder near your bed. In the morning, before starting your day, write or record any dreams you may have had.
Express affection in special ways-
What are the special ways you and your pet show love and devotion to each other? What always makes you laugh? How have you learned to read each other's minds and hearts? What rituals and routines do you have? Write about your unique forms of human-animal affection in your journal. When the sad day comes that your pet passes on, it will be these memories that bring you the deepest consolation.
See life from your pet's point of view-
At a time when no one else is around, turn off the phone and remove as many outer distractions as possible. You are creating a place where you can spend quality time with your pet. Lie on the floor or get eye to eye with the animal. Reflect on what it is like to see the world from your pet's perspective. From this viewpoint, observe what your pet might experience while looking at you or other human and animal family members.
Ask "why are we together?"-
Grab a photograph that shows a close-up of your pet's face and eyes. Look into the image and reflect on the love between you. Ponder why this relationship is important to you. What could be the spiritual reasons that this animal is in your life right now? Have the two of you made a sacred agreement to assist each other? Reflect on these questions and write spontaneous, unfiltered answers to them.
Sing a spiritual love song-
Did you know that singing and chanting holy songs also uplifts animals? HU (pronounced like the word hue) is an ancient love song to God that we sing personally to our pets. It tunes us into the Divine love flowing through all of life. Stand or sit near your pet. Fill your heart with love. Take a deep breath. As you exhale, sing HU in a long, flowing note (HU-oo-oo-oo). Repeat a few times. Together, enjoy a spiritual boost by chanting this golden sound.
Get in touch with nature-
Take a walk in a lovely environment and allow yourself to appreciate nature. Turn this stroll into a spiritual adventure in which you are open to all gifts. Listen to delicate sounds of birds chirping. Observe squirrels darting up trees and crawling along leafy branches. Just as you and your pet inhabit a physical home as members of a family, we all share this planet with the animals.
Meditate, pray, and relax-
Many animals instinctively know how to relax and let go, making them natural meditators. During a time when your pet is resting, try sitting in a quiet room with the animal nearby or on your lap. Take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes. Stay in a soothing inner space of love, peace, and harmony for five or ten minutes. Silently pray with your heart open to receive blessings. Meditate or pray at the same time every day.
Nurture trust in times of emergency-
Help your pet learn the spiritual quality of trust by being consistent with daily care, affection, and training. Be ready for physical emergencies. Have a pet disaster kit, emergency first aid materials, and extra food, water, and prescription medications on hand. As friends and mutual guardians, know that you will make it through whatever storms come your way.
Always forgive and show love-
One of the most frequently mentioned benefits of having pets is the unconditional love that they give. How many of us remember to return to that love unconditionally? Next time your pet makes a mistake, use the spiritual practice of loving without conditions. Truly feel the words as you say to them: "I love you-no matter what."

Earth Hour 2009- The Reiki Experience

"I don't always see guides…but I had literally just closed my eyes, hadn't even opened up to the energy and this smiling Hindu type lady was right in front of me like she was waiting for me. She had this beautiful brilliant white shawl and dress with beautiful turquoise and burgundy colors in them and she held my hands and filled them with gold light. It just went on from there, very beautiful but very intense. I saw throngs of people, mostly children coming together and moving toward us down this wide road with brilliant white light behind them... I think you were there too for a while. Later one of my own guides was here and then I was bouncing around the globe and back and forth between global issues and family or friends around the country. I'm so glad I took the time to do this!"
"I followed your directions Saturday night, turned off the lights and meditated from 8:30pm to 8:50pm...I visualized everyone I knew holding hands and dancing in a circle that grew wider and wider with more people and everyone was happy kicking up their legs, then lying down on the grass still holding hands...it was so nice...I love that I was doing something that many other people were doing, I felt a part of the whole universe!
